Dr. Yasir Qadhi
Yasir Qadhi is a Pakistani American Muslim scholar and theologian.
Dr. Yasir Qadhi was born in 1975 in Houston, Texas, to parents of Pakistani origin. He spent part of his childhood in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he completed memorization of the Qur’an and finished high school early. He then earned a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston, before turning fully to Islamic scholarship. He studied deeply in Madinah, completing a BA in Hadith Studies and an MA in Islamic Theology at the Islamic University of Madinah. Later, he pursued and obtained a PhD in Religious Studies from Yale University, focusing on Medieval Islamic thought and theology, especially the works of Ibn Taymiyyah.
In his professional and institutional work, Dr. Qadhi serves as Dean of the Islamic Seminary of America and Resident Scholar of the East Plano Islamic Center in Texas. He has held roles at AlMaghrib Institute (as Dean of Academic Affairs), taught in the Religious Studies department at Rhodes College, and given thousands of lectures, seminars, and courses globally. His leadership extends to authoring books, issuing scholarly works, and helping guide Muslims through both classical Islamic knowledge and contemporary issues.
In his preaching, Dr. Qadhi is known for combining rigorous traditional scholarship with relevance to modern challenges. He seeks to bridge the gap between classical Islamic sciences and present-day realities: theology, jurisprudence, Qur’an interpretation, community issues, and moral/spiritual growth. His style is both academic and approachable, emphasizing clarity, moderation, compassion, and encouraging critical thought rooted in Islamic sources.
