Sheikh Waleed Basyouni, PhD

Shaykh Waleed Basyouni is a respected Islamic scholar, preacher, and educator, currently serving as President of the AlMaghrib Institute and Head of its Theology & Ethics Department. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Sciences from Al-Imam Muhammad University in Saudi Arabia, a Master’s degree in Islamic Theology, World Religions & Modern Religious Sects from the same institution, and a Doctorate in Theology from the Graduate Theological Foundation in Indiana, USA.

As an Imam of Clear Lake Islamic Center in Houston, Texas, Shaykh Waleed is deeply involved in both community leadership and scholarship. He is also an instructor with AlMaghrib Institute and the American Open University. He is a member of significant Islamic organizations including the North American Imams Federation (NAIF) and the Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America (AMJA), where he participates in fatwa and research committees. Additionally, he directs the Texas Da’wah Convention, and often speaks at universities, conventions, interfaith forums, and other gatherings, both in the U.S. and internationally.

In his preaching and teaching style, Shaykh Waleed balances rigorous classical scholarship with relevance to contemporary Muslim life. He has ijazahs in Qurʾān recitation and various books of Hadith, studied under scholars like Shaykh Ibn Baz and others. His courses—such as Rays of Faith and Fundamentals of Faith—aim to strengthen belief (aqīdah), clarify theological misconceptions, and equip Muslims to live their faith confidently and knowledgeably.
