Sheikh Muhammad Nuruddeen Lemu, OON

An internationally respected scholar and educator, known for promoting Islamic knowledge, interfaith dialogue, and balanced understanding of faith in modern society.

Sheikh Nurudeen Lemu combines both western and Islamic education to serve society with compassion, wisdom, and faith. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and an MSc in Resource Management from the University of Edinburgh, UK. From early on, he felt called to address some of the pressing challenges in Nigeria, especially around religious misunderstanding, extremism, and the need for better interreligious/intrareligious dialogue.

In his professional/institutional work, Sheikh Lemu is Director of Research and Training at the Da’wah Institute of Nigeria, under the Islamic Education Trust (IET), Minna. He coordinates and authors courses, manuals, training resources and also leads “train-the-trainer” programmes that have reached tens of thousands of students, lecturers, youth & community leaders, across Nigeria and in many other countries. He also holds positions in organisations focused on halal finance (Lotus Capital), youth & environmental issues, inter-faith peace and sustainable development.

In terms of his Islamic preaching, his method is deeply rooted in using evidence-based scholarship to promote faith-based critical thinking (“Shariʿah Intelligence”). He emphasises interfaith engagement, intra-faith unity, equitable treatment (including gender issues), peaceful coexistence, responding to religious extremism, and countering radicalizing narratives. His lectures, media contributions, training programmes, and public speaking reflect a style that tries to make Islamic principles accessible, relevant and grounded in ethics and compassion.
