Mufti Dr. Ismail Ibn Musa Menk

Grand Mufti of Zimbabwe, prominent Islamic scholar, motivational speaker, and cleric

Born on June 27, 1975 in Harare, Zimbabwe, Mufti Menk comes from a Gujarati-Muslim family. He memorised the Qur’an at an early age under the guidance of his father, and also studied Arabic and Urdu. He attended St. John’s College in Harare for his secular education before moving on to pursue Islamic studies: obtaining a degree in Shariah from the Islamic University of Madinah, followed by specialisation in jurisprudence at Darul Uloom Kantharia in Gujarat, India.

Mufti Menk holds the office of Grand Mufti of Zimbabwe, and leads the Fatwa Department of the Council of Islamic Scholars of Zimbabwe (Majlisul Ulama). He also serves as an Imam and teacher at Darul Ilm in Harare. His work spreads widely through lectures, khutbahs, motivational talk series, books (notably Motivational Moments), and a strong social media presence.

In his preaching, Mufti Menk is known for combining traditional Islamic scholarship with a warm, relatable, and uplifting style. He addresses everyday issues youth challenges, family life, character, spirituality and promotes themes of compassion, peace, justice, moral accountability and service to humanity. His motto is often summarised as: “Do good, help others while preparing for the Hereafter.”
